. . . KICKS AGAINST DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY IN UYO
. . . WITHHDRAWS FROM #ENDSARS PROTEST
. . . ADOPTS ENGR. ETIDO INYANG AS BOT MEMBER
By Divine Sam:-
The meeting of the Akwa Ibom State branch of the Nigeria Good Governance Group (NGGG), held in Uyo on Saturday 24th October 2020 ended with a rejoinder signed and issued by the State Executive council of the group, led by Comrade Anietie Ekpenyong as follows:
1. That we condemn in totality, the brutal killing of peaceful protesters who demonstrated their constitutional right against the wanton killings, molestation, and extortion by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force across the country. The protest which aims at bringing to an end, these criminal activities by those whose job was to protect lives and property, also bill to attract total reformation and motivating welfare package to the police system in Nigeria.
2. That we despise, shun, and condemn into-to, the violence, stealing and destruction of both private and public property meted out in Uyo, the capital city on Thursday 22nd October 2020 by hoodlums who masqueraded themselves as #ENDSARS protesters. Therefore, in-as-much as we advocate for good governance which sets its priorities on security, economic and social welfare of the people as well as infrastructure, the recent act of destruction and looting in the state remains condemnable.
3. That consequence upon the article 2 above, in which the hoodlums have taken over the protest and disguise themselves as #ENDSARS protesters; and the fact that we cannot afford to swim in the same pool with the ghosts, we have temporarily withdrawn our support to the #ENDSARS protest by calling out our members across the state to desist from same at the moment, to avoid any further unwarranted situation in our dear state, while we watch the unfolding state of response by the Federal Government.
4. That we sympathize with the families of those who lost their lives in the course of this struggle while calling on government to dig deep into the matter to ensure that all those who perpetrated the killings and those who destroyed our collective property in the state are brought to book, for justice to take its course.
5. That any member of the public that has any issue related to the SARS or Police brutality should please, forward same to the judicial panel of inquiry set up by the Akwa Ibom State Government.
6. That we call on all residents and indigenes of Akwa Ibom State to remain calm and law-abiding as government takes necessary steps in arresting the situation.
7. That we have adopted Engr. Etido Inyang, FNSE as Grand Patron of the group in Akwa Ibom State. Consequentially, he has been the sole nominee as Member, BOT of the group to represent the south-south geopolitical zone of the group. This adoption was made soon after the Selection and Analysis of Personal Antecedence in Governance (SAPAIG) committee unanimously endorsed Engr. Etido Inyang for the position.
Congratulations!
