The Army defence headquarters has denied the allegation that it detained corpses of #EndSARS protesters murdered by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos on Tuesday night.
According to the Whistler reports, the army was reacting to a news report by an online newspaper which claimed that soldiers hijacked the corpses of some protesters to prevent their colleagues from leaving with evidence of the alleged gruesome murder.
Also, the report claimed that the wounded protesters were prevented from getting help from ambulances as the soldiers barricaded the scene of the shooting.
In a swift reaction through its official Twitter account @HQNigerianArmy, the Nigerian Army on Tuesday night tagged the report as “fake news”.
It denied having any soldier present at the venue of the shooting.
“No soldiers were at the scene,” the army wrote on a screenshot of the report that accused its soldiers of murder.
Meanwhile, earlier reports said some government officials had removed all CCTV cameras and disconnect the streetlights around the Lekki toll gate before the soldiers allegedly invaded the area and shot sporadically at protesters.
