The agitations by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, were in the best interest of the Nigerian students, says the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Lagos State.
Mr. Samuel Olalere, the newly elected chairman, NANS, Lagos area in a press conference on Tuesday said if the government could spend huge sums of money in billions of naira on Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and insurgency, it should be able to do likewise for education.
Olalere said, “Budgetary allocation for education has not been encouraging. If the issues of insurgency, NCDC can be catered for in billions I see no reason why the budgetary allocation for education cannot be catered for in such billions. ASUU’s agitations are for our own good.”
He also spoke about the government’s decision of asking lecturers to suspend lectures due to coronavirus without planning for e-learning as an alternative.
Olalere added that the focus of the newly elected executive was to defend the democratic rights of Nigerian students in Lagos State, adding that his administration would bring back the lost pride in students’ movement.
