Ahmad Lawan, the president of the senate has expressed sadness over the demise of Prof. Femi Odekunle who died on Tuesday.
Odekunle’s death was described as a great loss to the academic community and to Nigeria by Lawan in a statement by his media office on Wednesday.
Lawan said Odekunle, who is the first Professor of Criminology in Nigeria, was a reputable scholar and an academic giant who imparted knowledge to his numerous students. He also served his country with his expertise in a discipline in which he was an authority.
His immense contributions as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption was also recalled by the Senate President as he condoled with the family of the late professor.
Similarly, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives expressed sadness over the demise of Odekunle.
The Speaker, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, said the renowned professor would be sorely missed by many.
“Describing the late Prof. Odekunle as one intellectual Nigerian whose value to the country could not be quantified, the Speaker said the late professor lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation by upcoming generation,” the statement partly reads.
