Toke Makinwa, a media celebrity, has spoken up about how her divorce from fitness expert Maje Ayida affected her.
Toke married in 2014 and divorced in 2016, according to reports, in 18 months they got divorced amidst a big scandal.
Recall that For a long period, the radio personality dated her ex-husband.
Ayida cheated on her and didn’t disguise his past relationships.
In her book of memoirs, “On becoming,” Toke admitted that her future husband had three times postponed her wedding date.
When the time came, she decided to keep the wedding very private since she was scared that Ayida would not show up at all.
Toke’s relatives, by the way, were opposed to their wedding.
We have a reasonable question: what type of future can such a couple expect, given how difficult things began out?
The film diva said she didn’t see her divorce coming in a recent episode of the ‘Tea with Taymesan’ podcast.
“I didn’t see my divorce coming,” she added. “I remember cutting my 30th birthday cake at my husband’s house and saying, ‘Yo b*tches, I’m 30, I have a growing career, I’m married, and everything is going great right now.’ My sister said, ‘What do you mean?’ that night. You’re in your element.’ I informed her I married before I turned 30 and asked her to respect my name. It had an impact on every aspect of my life, and it felt like death. It was as if I had lost someone.
Toke went on to say that her relationship with God is what has kept her going.
She said: “My relationship with God, that is the only thing in the world that is really keeping me balanced. I tell people I don’t know how you survive in this world, in this industry without God. I admire people who have different means of coping mechanisms and sometimes I am like ‘how does it work for you’? But for me, I find out that I need to be rooted in something that is beyond all that is happening right now.”
