Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba has assented to the promotion of 21,039 junior officers.
It was learnt that the officers affected were last elevated on or before 2017.
Accordong to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, who announced the approval in a statement on Thursday, said that the promotion comprises 20,572 Sergeants to Inspector, 324 Corporals to Sergeants, and 143 Constables to Corporal.
Adejobi added that it is part of efforts aimed at improving the welfare, conditions of service and boosting the morale of personnel for greater efficiency.
Baba assured that he remained committed to manpower development to ensure that deserving personnel are rewarded to encourage hard work.
The IGP informed senior police officers that the Force high command is liaising with the Police Service Commission (PSC) on the release of their promotion.
He commended the newly-promoted officers for their resilience and charged them to see their new ranks as a call for renewed zeal, vigour and patriotism to duty.
