As the world celebrated WORLD SAFETY DAY, set aside by the United Nations to bring to the fore the inherent dangers workers face at work, and the need to ensure that safety measures are put in place to protect them; the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) was not left behind recently.
The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), as part of its activities to commemorate the event, held a public awareness campaign with the topic “working safe and maintaining sound health in the public space” at the federal secretariat in Port Harcourt. The organisation with public address system also distributed flyers and stickers to convey their safety message at the federal secretariat.
The organisation led by the state Chairman Engr. John Onyemenam also took the awareness campaign to the 12th bridge constructed by Governor Nyesom Wike to educate some young men who were on duty to paint bridge, inform them on the consequences of inhaling fumes from the paint and raise their awareness the need to apply respirator on their nose to prevent inhalation of said fumes. They donated some PPE to them.
The organisation draws the curtain of the 2023 world safety day with a symposium in collaboration with the national body, with 3 papers presentations by seasoned safety professionals in various areas.
The symposium also witnessed the official induction of new members into the organisation.
