Kidnap of oil workers in Lagos: Family of victims weep, besiege company office

Less than 48 hours after the Managing Director and seven employees of a Lagos-based oil company were abducted while in a boat headed for the affluent Lekki neighborhood of the state, concerned family members of the victim reportedly besieged the oil company’s Apapa headquarters demanding to know the victims’ fate.
The boat the oil employees boarded was later found drifting in a different region from where they were headed without them. The oil workers were abducted last Monday while aboard the boat. According to witnesses, they were dragged from their boat into another that carried them away. Their possessions were undamaged, and their boat did not capsize.

According to sources, the family members with dejected expressions tried desperately to meet with oil company officials but were unable. According to reports, they were on the verge of making a commotion at the workplace until a top company official who shall remain nameless begged for time so they could act swiftly to locate the victims safely.

Additionally, it was discovered that the kidnappers had not yet made contact with the victims’ families. However, sources suggested that they may be engaged in a serious, covert discussion with the oil business they targeted in order to demand a big ransom.

According to a source who wished to remain completely anonymous, officials of the oil business have warned members of the victims’ families not to do anything that could compromise their covert negotiations with the kidnappers in order to protect the lives of their relatives.

Through their spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command categorically declared that the investigation into the kidnapping of the oil workers is still ongoing. Hundeyin continued by saying that he would withhold more information about the efforts police are doing to save the victims in order to prevent endangering their lives due to the delicate nature of the situation, which endangered human lives.
