…. Set to hold 8th Int’l conference, AGM in Akwa Ibom October 26th
The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (A Division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers) under the leadership of Engr. Akaninyene Ekong as national Chairman recently inaugurated two new Chapters of the institution in the Northern and Eastern Region of the country.
The inauguration of the two chapters saw the emergence of Engr. Chidozie Okereke as Pioneer State Chairman of Imo State and Engr.
Shamsudeen Dalhatsu sworn in as the Pioneer Chairman of Kano State Chapter respectively.
The National Chairman of Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) Engr Dr Akaninyene Ekong while administering oath of office to the pioneer chairmen charged them to work assiduously as a team, engage the Government constructively and proffer safety engineering solutions to ensure both industrial and public safety are adopted and practice in their various states. The NISafetyE Boss further called on the new Chapters to leverage on the approved Codes of Practice for Construction Safety issued by NISafetyE and other technical safety guidances on Food Safety , Process Safety etc to create a synergy with the National to engage their various State Governments to create a law to establish Safety Commissions to regulate, monitor and enforce compliance to safety.
Engr. Ekong officially announced the NISafetyE 8th International Conference & AGM scheduled to hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital from
October 26 -28 2023 with the theme “Safety & Loss Prevention in Construction Projects ;the Safety Engineer Approach”
Also speaking at the ceremony the COREN President Engr Prof Zubair spoke on the need to foster professionalism in the Engineering Profession through various divisions while leveraging on Safety Engineering to be included in the Tertiary Educational Curriculum for Engineers , Technologist ,Technician and Craftsmen, Training and Mandatory Competency development will be carried out for all Engineers with Safety Engineering being an integral part of Engineers training modules.
The COREN President assured NISafetyE of working closely together to advance Engineering practice in Nigeria.
The ceremony features various prominent dignitaries including, Group Captain Mfon Akpan of the Nigerian Airforce Kano, Engr Mustafa Shehu President -Elect World Federation of Engineering Organization, the Pioneer National Chairman NISafetyE Engr Adeyemi Oyedepo, the President Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria Professor Abubakar Sadiq Zubair, Professor Rabiu Magaji amongst other personalities that graced the event.
