Due to the state of his remains five months after they were discovered on a snow-covered mountain in California, the cause of English actor Julian Sands’ death has been ruled “undetermined.”
The 65-year-old actor went missing during a climb in the San Gabriel Mountains of California at the time, and his body was found by hikers last month close to Mount Baldy.
An official has stated that the cause of his death has not yet been confirmed after an investigation.
When dealing with situations of this nature, the ‘undetermined’ method of death is typical, a representative for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told PEOPLE.
The mountain summit climbs more than 10,000 feet east of Los Angeles, and Sands, an enthusiastic hiker and mountaineer, headed out for it in January. Sands was reported missing shortly after.
Over the course of the winter, the area was battered by violent storms.
The bones of Sands were discovered in the wilderness on June 24 by hikers. The remains were identified as Sands’ by the coroner’s office.
The actor’s family had hoped that he would be discovered alive.
