Youths in Ikot Oku Mfang village in Otoro ward one, Abak LGA Akwa Ibom are currently under a serious struggle and controversy over an alleged plan to impose one Mrs. Goodnews Itoro Udofia, member of the current transition committee in Abak local government council as candidate for Otoro ward 1 by Mr. Aniedi Udo popularly known and addressed as Also Udo petroleum.

The aggrieved youths mainly from the Ikot Oku Mfang community where the next councilor of the ward is ready to emerge, interacted with Newsieevents online on the situation of imposition and said the protest was to express their grievances over the planned imposition of the incumbent transition committee member as consensus candidate.

The youths who spoke with news events on the phone said the need for justice and a level playing field for all aspirants in the forthcoming primaries of the party for councilorship should not be compromised

The youth called on the party leadership to adopt the direct primary in the forthcoming congress to guarantee fair play and ensure the emergence of credible candidates for the party ahead of the election.

“In a shocking display of greed and selfishness, Aniedi Udo, also known as Also Udo Petroleum, the self-proclaimed political leader of Otoro Ward 1, has shown a blatant disregard for fairness and democracy. Despite the upcoming local councilor elections in October 2024, Udo has already installed his younger brother’s wife Goodnews Itoro Udofia as a transition committee member and is now actively working to secure her position as the elected councilor.

This blatant manipulation of power and nepotism is not only unethical, but it also undermines the democratic process and shows a complete lack of consideration for the community’s needs and desires. It is truly disappointing to see such selfish behavior from someone who claims to be a leader and representative of the people” The youths revolt.
