The Bauchi State government has shut down 39 private colleges of education for operating without proper registration or necessary infrastructure. Mrs. Lydia Tsammani, the Commissioner for Higher Education, announced that these institutions lacked National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) approval and were functioning in inadequate conditions. They were found to be using borrowed teachers and inappropriate facilities.
Tsammani explained that unregistered colleges were given a six-month notice to complete their registration or face sanctions. Additionally, 12 colleges with NCCE approval must meet certain criteria, including hiring qualified staff, paying registration fees, admitting qualified students, and upgrading facilities to meet modern standards.
