On August 15, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja experienced confusion as three Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) appeared to represent different parties in a suit concerning the PDP’s congresses in Rivers State. Justice Peter Lifu had previously ordered a restraint on disrupting these congresses. During the hearing, K.C. O. Njemanze, SAN, appeared for the plaintiffs, while Ferdinand Orbih and Kamaldeen Ajibade announced representation for the defendants. The situation escalated with Sunday Ibrahim Ameh also claiming representation for the defendants.
Justice Lifu adjourned the case to August 30 for the senior advocates to resolve their representation claims among themselves. He also extended the previous restraining order and directed the parties to file motions proving their engagement. Additionally, the court did not address a motion for joining new defendants, as the confusion among the senior lawyers caused a delay.
