Tricycle, motorcycle commercial riders accuse delta state police command of disrupting their business

The National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS) has accused the Delta State Police Command and rival groups of disrupting their business operations and harassing their members. The association has called on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene.

NACTOMORAS’s National Public Relations Officer, Goodwin Ikolo, led a protest on Udu Road in Udu Local Government Area, citing indiscriminate arrests and harassment by the police. The association claims that the National Human Rights Commission had recommended halting such actions and compensating a deceased member’s family, but these recommendations remain unfulfilled. They report a loss of over 150 tricycles and motorcycles valued at over N150 million due to police actions.

Ikolo also accused the Delta State Ministry of Transportation and a rival association of using police and thugs to obstruct their operations. He recalled past raids by the Ministry of Transport and called for adherence to the National Human Rights Commission’s recommendations.

In response, Delta State Police spokesperson SP Edafe Bright stated that NACTOMORAS is not recognized by the state government and is thus not acknowledged by the police. He emphasized that the police are bound to recognize legal entities only and advised NACTOMORAS to seek court intervention if they believe their rights have been violated.
