Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, kidnapping for ransom has become Nigeria’s most-reported crime. Data from Nigeria’s Ministry of Police Affairs, as shared by StatiSense on X, shows that kidnapping cases surpass other major crimes such as murder, banditry, terrorism, and armed robbery.
The data reveals that kidnapping is the most frequently reported crime in various regions, including the North Central, North East, North West, South East, and South-South zones. Conversely, murder cases are most prevalent in the South West. Despite the administration’s promises to tackle insecurity, incidents of kidnapping and other crimes continue to rise. Recent cases include the abduction of a family in the Federal Capital Territory and the kidnapping of medical students in Benue State.
