Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has sworn in 13 newly elected Local Government Area (LGA) council chairmen, emphasizing their new autonomy both financially and administratively.
At the ceremony held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, Nwifuru instructed the chairmen to prioritize the welfare of stakeholders, including ward councillors and traditional rulers, as they work to ensure peace and unity in the state.
Nwifuru warned the chairmen to avoid being influenced by social media and focus instead on empowering the youth, elders, and women in their communities.
He also urged them to address infrastructural development and manage their resources prudently. The governor cautioned against imposing traditional rulers on communities without proper understanding of the traditions, which he warned could hinder state progress.
In response, key figures including Comrade Chinedu Ogah, Mr. Abubakar Buba, and Mr. Ogodo Ali-Nomeh praised the implementation of local government autonomy and thanked the governor for his commitment to the law.
