Residents of Olusoji in Ibadan, Oyo State, have voiced concerns about the worsening security situation in their community, attributing it to the actions of local police. According to reports, officers from the Kuola Divisional Headquarters have been stationed at the community entrance, where they are accused of extorting money from motorcycle riders (okada) and other commercial drivers.

Local youths have confronted the police, urging them to relocate their activities to the expressway, where more commercial traffic occurs. Residents claim that the police presence at the entrance has forced okada riders to use alternative routes, complicating efforts to monitor and manage security within the community.

A resident told Newsieevents, “The police have turned this place into their personal revenue collection spot, and as a result, the okada riders are now using different routes to enter the community, making it harder for us to ensure security.”

The community is calling for the police to either move their operations away from the entrance or to focus on areas with more commercial activity, arguing that their current position exacerbates insecurity rather than alleviating it.
