The flood in Maiduguri has led to a significant emergency response, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), military, and other organizations intensifying rescue operations.
According to NEMA’s North East Acting Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Sirajo Garba, rescuers have saved about 200 people in recent days, with over 1,000 rescued on the day of the flood.
The flood has resulted in at least 30 confirmed deaths, with NEMA issuing four body bags so far. The full extent of casualties remains uncertain as the search continues and the water recedes. More than 70,000 individuals have been accounted for in seven relief camps.
