NLC says increase in petrol price nullify 70,000 minimum wages.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed strong concerns regarding the recent increase in petrol prices, stating that it has effectively nullified the benefits of the upcoming N70,000 national minimum wage. NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that the organized labor was misled by President Bola Tinubu into accepting the new wage, believing it would prevent a rise in fuel costs.

Ajaero highlighted the pressing issues of hunger and poverty affecting Nigerians and criticized the government for failing to address these challenges. He accused the administration of distracting labor representatives with various allegations while neglecting the rising fuel prices that are worsening workers’ conditions. He reiterated the sentiment of betrayal, asserting that the promises made during discussions with the president have not been honored. The NLC plans to engage with the federal government to find solutions for the escalating hardships faced by workers.
