Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has urged citizens to remain calm following the announcement of Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the recent governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The results showed Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) receiving 291,667 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, garnered 247,274 votes.
In a broadcast addressing the situation, Obaseki emphasized the importance of peace and urged citizens not to resort to violence or property destruction. He expressed concern over the “impunity and reckless disregard for processes” observed during the election.
Highlighting the democratic principle that allows citizens to choose their leaders, Obaseki stated that the recent election outcome represents a significant injustice. He encouraged citizens to seek resolution through lawful means and reassured them of the government’s commitment to their well-being and security.
