Senator Okpebholo’ victory is a clear prove Obaseki lacks popular support – Philip Shaibu

In a recent interview, reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, expressed his views on the recent governorship election, asserting that the results validated his long-held belief that Governor Goodwin Obaseki lacks popular support. Following the election, where APC’s Senator Monday Okpebholo defeated Obaseki’s candidate, Shaibu emphasized that Obaseki has never won an election independently, always relying on external support.

Shaibu, who had a falling out with Obaseki over his own gubernatorial ambitions for 2024, claimed he felt “vindicated” by the election outcome. He urged Obaseki to reflect on his leadership and apologize to those he has marginalized within his administration. Shaibu highlighted his own electoral successes, stating he has consistently won his ward and local government, contrasting this with Obaseki’s inability to secure victory in his own area.
