The Transparency Advocacy for Development Initiatives (TADI) has demanded the immediate removal of Mele Kyari as CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) along with his leadership team. The group accuses Kyari of catastrophic failure, citing broken promises, gross mismanagement, and corruption that have exacerbated Nigeria’s fuel crisis and increased national debt.
TADI’s statement emphasizes the hardships faced by Nigerians due to soaring fuel prices and inflation, questioning the government’s ability to alleviate these issues under Kyari’s leadership. They highlight that NNPCL has accumulated $6.8 billion in debt to fuel suppliers without resolving persistent shortages.
The group calls for a full audit of funds allocated for refinery rehabilitation and an investigation into alleged financial mismanagement. They plan to protest at the NNPCL towers from October 17 to 18, demanding accountability and a leadership change to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.
