A shooting spree in Ifite Awka, the capital of Anambra State, occurred on Thursday morning, resulting in multiple fatalities. The incident took place around 9:15 a.m. in an area frequented by students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the violence may be linked to ongoing cult-related activities. One student reported witnessing the shooting of an individual, while a lecturer noted seeing seven lifeless bodies in the vicinity, prompting her to cancel classes and leave the area.

This incident follows a recent shooting in Nibo, near Awka, that left at least 12 people dead. Although the exact number of casualties from Thursday’s attack remains unclear, the Anambra State Police have deployed a response team to the scene.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the investigation into intercepted videos and voice notes that threaten violence in the area. He assured the public that police and security forces are intensifying patrols to maintain order and safety in the state. Further details regarding the incident are expected to be released shortly.
