Simon Ekpa, leader of the Biafra Government in Exile, has criticized the Nigerian government for continuously violating the rights of Igbos, despite their loyalty to the nation. He urged Igbos in government positions to join the Biafra movement, emphasizing the need for self-determination and the upcoming referendum set for November 29 to December 3, 2024, in Finland.
Ekpa asserted that the establishment of Nigeria, viewed as an artificial creation by colonial powers, has led to ongoing human rights violations for the Igbo people. He framed the movement for Biafra as not only a moral obligation but also essential for self-preservation.
In a related political context, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent appointment of Bianca Ojukwu to his cabinet has been interpreted as an attempt to engage the South-East, although Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has criticized this move, referring to it as a continuation of neglect towards the Igbo community by the Tinubu administration.
