Biafra: Rep Obi Aguocha Meets Nnamdi Kanu, Resolves DSS Restrictions on Lawyers.

On October 24, 2024, Obi Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives, met with Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at a DSS facility in Abuja. This meeting came amid restrictions imposed by the Department of State Services (DSS), which had blocked Kanu from accessing his legal team following his request for his trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, to recuse herself.

Aguocha’s visit was prompted by concerns from Kanu’s lawyers, who faced challenges in meeting with him. After discussing the situation with Kanu, Aguocha engaged the DSS and the Speaker of the House, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, to seek intervention.

The resolution from their discussions allowed Kanu’s legal team to regain access to him. Aguocha reported that Kanu was in good spirits and had recently received medical attention. He praised the DSS for addressing Kanu’s healthcare needs and expressed optimism for a political solution that could lead to Kanu’s release.

Aguocha emphasized the importance of upholding Kanu’s fundamental human rights as outlined in the Nigerian constitution and international instruments.
