Orji Kalu, the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, has claimed that Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), threatened him for not supporting the Biafra cause. During an interview with Arise Television, Kalu revealed that Ekpa called him, expressing anger over his stance, but Kalu chose to ignore the threats. Kalu emphasized the importance of strong leadership in combating crime, asserting that security should be based on intelligence. He also called on Southeast governors to adopt a firm and decisive approach against non-state actors.

Simon Ekpa, who was arrested by the police in Finland on November 21 for spreading terrorist propaganda, remains in custody, with charges expected to be filed in May 2025.
