The mother of Naomi Silekunola, the estranged former queen of the Ooni of Ife, has pleaded for intervention following her daughter’s involvement in the tragic stampede during a Christmas party in Ibadan that led to the deaths of 40 children.

In an emotional video shared on social media, Funmilayo Ogunseyi defended her daughter, stating that Naomi was simply trying to help the less privileged and had no intention of causing harm.

She described Naomi as unwell and fragile, having fainted before being taken to court, and pleaded for mercy from the public, particularly mothers, to prevent her daughter’s imprisonment.

Ogunseyi expressed sympathy for the families who lost children but emphasized that Naomi’s actions were driven by compassion.
