By Divine Sam

The Lagos Synergy Lions Club made a heartwarming visit to the Special Correctional Centre in Oregun, Lagos, spreading Christmas cheer to the 100 minor inmates housed at the facility. The event, which took place on December 21, was an opportunity for the club to share food, drinks, and words of encouragement with the young residents.

Lion James Nwakanma, the service chairperson of the club, delivered a stirring speech on the theme “Hope in Hopelessness.” He urged the minors not to lose hope despite their challenging circumstances. He reminded them that their time at the correctional centre was an opportunity for growth and redemption, encouraging them to see their situation as a chance for positive transformation rather than a permanent fate.

Nwakanma emphasized the importance of self-improvement, urging the inmates to use the resources and opportunities available to them to become better citizens and contribute meaningfully to society. He encouraged them to view their past mistakes as learning experiences and not as defining features of their identities.

Lion Charles Nduka, the immediate past president of the Lagos Synergy Lions Club, explained that the purpose of the visit was to bring joy and hope to the young residents. He reaffirmed the club’s belief that every child, regardless of their past, deserves a second chance to make a positive impact on their community.

The club’s president, Lion Oluwasegu Buraimoh Stephen, who was unable to attend in person as he was abroad, sent a heartfelt message to the minors. He urged them not to give up on their dreams, expressing confidence that brighter days lay ahead. He also commended the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for creating a conducive and rehabilitative environment for the young offenders at the facility.

Lion Buraimoh further encouraged other state governments across the country to follow Lagos State’s example in setting up juvenile correctional centres that focus on rehabilitation and second chances.

The team spent quality time engaging with the inmates, offering both educational activities and personal conversations. The event was a part of the club’s ongoing efforts to support the community, particularly vulnerable children, by providing them with guidance, hope, and opportunities for personal growth.

Lagos Synergy Lions Club is committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of young people, ensuring that they have access to the necessary resources to thrive and become responsible citizens.
