The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded sharply to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, calling him a “prophet of doom.” This criticism follows Obi’s recent statement in a press conference on Thursday, where he expressed concerns about Nigeria’s deteriorating economic and security situation under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Obi urged Tinubu to visit hospitals in Nigeria and observe the worsening conditions.
In response, APC spokesperson Felix Morka dismissed Obi’s claims as misleading and politically motivated, arguing that the country’s economy has made progress in recent months. The APC further criticized Obi’s comments, claiming that while Nigerians were celebrating the new year with optimism for 2025, Obi was instead spreading negative rhetoric about the nation’s political, economic, and security status. The ruling party emphasized that the positive indicators of Nigeria’s recovery across various sectors contradicted Obi’s gloomy outlook, labeling him as the nation’s leading “doomsayer.”
