Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), recently visited human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, who had been released from detention after meeting his bail conditions. Farotimi had been arrested in December 2024 for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD). He had been held at a correctional center in Ado Ekiti before being granted bail by a Chief Magistrate Court in a N30 million case.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi expressed that he was pleased to find Farotimi in good spirits. He praised Farotimi for his resilience and commitment to the fight for better governance in Nigeria. Obi emphasized that Farotimi’s situation demonstrated the possibility of a “New Nigeria” as they both continue working towards the nation’s development. Farotimi’s courage and bold stance for good governance were highlighted in Obi’s message, which also wished him a fruitful and productive year.
