The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has dismissed a lawsuit that sought to compel Governor Siminialayi Fubara to present the 2024 state budget to the faction of 26 lawmakers led by Martins Amaewhule. The suit, filed by the Registered Trustees of the Association of Claimants of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners, also named the Government of Rivers State and the Attorney-General as defendants.

In his ruling, Justice S. M. Aprioku described the case as “hasty and premature” due to the lack of sufficient evidence in the affidavit presented by the parties involved. He emphasized that the issue of jurisdiction, particularly regarding the legitimacy of the 27 former lawmakers to enact laws, remains unresolved in various courts. As a result, Justice Aprioku ruled that the status quo must be preserved until these ongoing legal matters are decided.
