Newsie Events Media:
Nigerian political activist and co-founder of #BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu has reminded some women who tweet everyday to degrade feminists and feminism that they could read or write today because of the movement.
The businesswoman stated that women were not wanted in schools. “They wanted you to just cook, clean and give birth! It took feminists fighting with all to ensure women can be in school,”she wrote via her X handle.
Commenting on the post, a Nigerian man with the X handle @IruefiNG, insisted that the mission of the feminists has changed in Nigeria.
He described feminism in Nigeria as politicians who instead of campaigning on what they will do if elected, were busy attacking their opponents.
Iruefi maintained the hate against men in the name of feminism is crazy.
He wrote, “I’m afraid feminism amongst Nigerian women has metamorphosed from fighting for equality/equity between men & women to simply hating men; this isn’t part of the core principles that feminism was founded on.
The simple truth is that of the 100% that claim to be feminists in Nigeria, 95% of them are genuine misandrists. Only a handful of Nigerian women understand what the real struggle is about and have pushed for its values to be adopted across all spheres of life. The others are just men-haters seeking out every opportunity to denigrate men instead using the same energy to invest and promote values that will strengthen the female gender. For them, it’s a hating competition.
When I first came to know about feminism many years ago, I thought to myself, ‘if this is what the fight is for then it means I am also a feminist’, because all my life I’ve pushed for equal rights and opportunities for women. Unfortunately, when I read the memo and saw the template Nigerian feminists operated with, I decided to dissociate myself from that struggle because how can I be fighting for equality for you but every time ‘all men are this and that’, and the crazy thing is they’re willing to sacrifice their fathers on the altar of feminism just to prove their disdain for men.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who I believe was the first prominent feminist of Nigerian extraction has since dissociated herself from ‘Nigerian feminists’ because of the bile and hateful rhetoric that they propagate.
Nigerian feminists are like politicians who instead of campaigning with what they will do if elected, they rather expend their resources attacking their opponents. If you scroll through the page of a typical Nigerian feminist on this app, chances are you won’t see a single post of them promoting positive values to uplift the female gender. On the same page you’ll see tons of posts denigrating men. They’d even bully women who don’t conform to their memo, calling them ‘pick me’; a suggestion that these women are pandering to men or patriarchal norms in order to be ‘picked’.
I’ll end this by using the case of Mum Zee who committed no crime but cook for her husband, yet for a year these feminists seize every opportunity to pile on her. Looking at how they behave on this app, is there any reason to associate with them? What is there to emulate about bile, hate, and envy?
