Saudi Arabia has released three Nigerian women—Hadiza Abba, Fatima Malah, and Fatima Gamboi—who were arrested for allegedly possessing cocaine while on pilgrimage.

The women were detained in March 2024 at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, after being suspected of aiding in the trafficking of the substance, following the arrest of two other Nigerians with large quantities of cocaine.

Their release came after extensive diplomatic efforts by the Nigerian government, and they were handed over to the Nigerian consulate in Jeddah.

The women are now awaiting immigration procedures before returning to Nigeria to reunite with their families.
