Insecurity: Gunmen impose N172.7m on 25 villages in zamfara state.

Gunmen in Zamfara State have imposed a staggering levy of N172.7 million on 25 villages in the Tsafe West area, creating a climate of fear and forcing hundreds of residents to flee. The gunmen, led by the infamous bandit leader Danisuhu, have also demanded in-kind contributions, including bags of soybeans, from the affected communities.

The demands vary by village, with Gijinzama facing a N8.5 million levy, Dakolo burdened with a N5 million levy and 20 bags of soybeans, and Kunchin Kalgo hit with the highest levy of N20 million. Other villages like Gunja, Kauyen Kane, and Kurar Mota also face significant financial demands, while Sungawa and Rakyabu have been asked for N15 million each. Failure to meet these demands is met with threats of violence, prompting widespread displacement.

As a result, many residents have fled their homes, farms, and livelihoods to avoid brutal attacks by the bandits. The ongoing insecurity in rural areas, particularly in Tsafe West, contrasts with some improvements in security within the town of Tsafe and along the Funtua-Tsafe axis. Local sources are urging for immediate government intervention to address the escalating situation.
