Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and his colleagues in the League of Northern Democrats (LND) are poised to transform the group into a political party, the League of National Democrats (LND). The new party is positioned to challenge the political dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), both of which have faced sharp criticism for their governance.

Dr. Umar Ardo, the convener of LND, stated that both the APC and PDP have failed to effectively address Nigeria’s pressing issues such as poverty, insecurity, corruption, and institutional decay. He further accused these parties of being self-serving and dishonest, perpetuating a political environment that has left Nigeria stagnant. The LND aims to break this cycle, offering a platform based on honesty, patriotism, and democratic values.

The transformation of LND into a full political party is expected to expand its reach beyond the North and embrace individuals from Southern Nigeria to form a more inclusive platform. With a focus on governance reform, the LND seeks to challenge the status quo by advocating for democratic renewal and a more effective and transparent approach to governance.
