Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has called on Christian leaders to address the rising cases of idolatry in the Southeast, describing it as the fastest-growing religion in the region.

Speaking at the annual retreat of over 170 Anglican bishops in Awka, Soludo emphasized the need for religious leaders to promote morals and combat criminality.

He highlighted how the pursuit of wealth without hard work and the growing trend of idolatry are contributing to Nigeria’s moral decay. The governor also warned that the “get-rich-quick” mentality is fueling insecurity and criminal activities like kidnapping.

Soludo urged the Church to lead by example, focusing on values such as character, service, and integrity, rather than wealth accumulation. He also pointed out that many religious institutions overlook the origins of donations from their members, which may stem from unethical wealth.

The governor stressed the importance of the Church restoring core values and acting as a beacon of righteousness and integrity, crucial for the country’s spiritual and moral well-being.
