The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, has condemned the inappropriate conduct of some students who were filmed wearing the university’s matriculation gowns in videos that have gone viral on social media. He emphasized that such actions undermine the dignity of the institution and tarnish its reputation.

In a statement issued to the students, Professor Jimoh revealed that the students involved in the videos had been identified and would face disciplinary measures. He stressed the importance of maintaining the institution’s integrity and upholding the excellence on which KWASU was founded. The VC expressed his disappointment, calling the students’ actions a “disservice” to the hard work of the university’s faculty and a ridicule of the institution’s processes, which are centered on excellence.

Professor Jimoh reiterated the need to protect the university’s name and image, urging students to avoid actions that cast KWASU in a negative light. He also highlighted the achievements of KWASU graduates globally, encouraging current students to aspire to contribute positively and make the university proud. The VC called on students to focus on their academic and personal development, assuring them that the university would continue to support their growth and success.
