2027: Kenneth Okonkwo call out Tinubu, Atiku, Obi to stepdown.

By Divine Sam

Kenneth Okonkwo, a former member of the Labour Party (LP) and a key figure in the party’s 2023 presidential campaign, has called on President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to step aside from running for the presidency in the 2027 election.

Okonkwo emphasized the need for decisive leadership in Nigeria, stating that winning an election goes beyond just securing votes—it requires fighting for the mandate to serve the people.

Having worked closely with Obi during the 2023 elections, Okonkwo has distanced himself from supporting him in the upcoming election cycle, noting that whatever happened in 2023 should remain in the past.

He officially resigned from the Labour Party on February 11, 2025, citing internal conflicts within the party as his reason for leaving. His resignation will take effect on February 25, 2025. He clarified that he would not be returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of failing to tackle Nigeria’s problems.

However, he left open the possibility of rejoining APC if the party undergoes significant reform and begins to better serve the nation.
