Newsie Events:

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 42-year-old Angolan businessman, Mbala Abuba, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for attempting to smuggle 120 wraps of cocaine to Istanbul, Turkey.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed that Abuba, a native of Zaire Province in Angola, was apprehended on February 25 while trying to board an Egypt Air flight (MS 880) to Istanbul via Cairo.

A body scan confirmed that he had ingested illicit drugs.
Babafemi explained that the suspect was placed under excretion observation, resulting in the recovery of 120 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.829 kilograms across seven excretions.

During interrogation, Abuba claimed he previously operated a township delivery business in Angola before venturing into drug trafficking.

In a related operation, NDLEA agents intercepted an attempt by Okeke Ebuka, an auto spare parts dealer, to smuggle 1.10 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside vehicle propellers.

The drugs were discovered at the export shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, on February 25, following credible intelligence. Ebuka, who operates at the ASPANDA Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, was arrested while trying to ship the illegal consignment to Angola.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives blocked a third trafficking attempt involving Ezechi Iyke, who was caught transporting 5.40 kilograms of cocaine to Owerri, Imo State.

Iyke was arrested in his Toyota Sienna bus on February 23 by a special NDLEA operations unit after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

Beyond these arrests, NDLEA continues its “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) campaign, engaging in sensitization activities across schools, religious centers, workplaces, and local communities.

Recent outreach programs were held at Ansarudeen Junior Secondary School in Ojuelegba, Lagos; Loretto Girls Special Science School in Adazinnukwu, Anambra; and Tudun Murtala Special Primary School in Nasarawa LGA, Kano State.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd), praised the dedication of officers from the Tin-can, Delta, Edo, Oyo, Kano, Osun, Borno, Zamfara, and Kwara commands for their successful arrests and drug seizures, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking across Nigeria.
