Thirteen people, including women and children, have been killed in a recent attack by suspected herdsmen on Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The armed assailants reportedly targeted multiple communities, including Utange council ward, Kpav, Dikpo, and Imande Gberihwa, during a series of assaults that began on Friday and escalated on Saturday night.
According to sources, several residents are missing, while others have fled to neighboring communities for safety.
A local source, speaking anonymously, revealed that the violence started on Friday when armed herders stormed Utange and killed several people before extending their attacks to Kpav and other areas the following night.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Justine Shaku, stated that 13 people lost their lives, seven others were injured, and several homes and food supplies were destroyed.
He described the attack as unprovoked and part of a series of violent assaults by the bandits.
Reacting to the tragedy, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, expressed his condolences to the affected families and communities.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, the governor condemned the brutality, vowing that such acts of violence would not be tolerated.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, CSP Catherine Anene, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
