Rivers Crisis: APC Chieftain Condemns Alleged Plot to Impeach Governor Fubara

Newsie Events:

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has condemned the alleged plan to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statement released to journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Eze, who was the former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cost him the backing of the Niger Delta region.

Eze alleged that the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State persists because of the Presidency’s support for Wike.

**”Wike, with the support of the Presidency, is championing the plot to impeach Governor Fubara in order to install Amaewhule as governor.

“Obviously, Wike is capitalizing on his unholy political marriage to Tinubu to destabilize Rivers State and distract Governor Fubara, solely to ensure that their stooge, Amaewhule, becomes governor to enable them to rig the 2027 general elections in Rivers State,”** Eze alleged.

According to Eze, these “evil and undemocratic” attempts to remove Fubara from office will not succeed but will instead strengthen the governor’s resolve to rescue the state from what he described as “vandals parading themselves as lawmakers.”

“I have counseled President Tinubu from the beginning that his romance with Wike will not only destroy APC as a political party but will stain his political career as a democrat,” he warned.

Eze argued that the impeachment attempt would fail because Tinubu and Wike’s allies lack a deep understanding of Rivers State’s political structure, which he described as being divided between the upland and riverine regions.

“It may interest the public to note that the upland axis of the state has, through Dr. Peter Odili, Rt. Hon. Barr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and Chief Nyesom Wike, governed Rivers State for 24 years, while the riverine axis, through Sir Fubara, is just beginning its turn,” he explained.

He insisted that any attempt to disrupt Fubara’s administration would amount to the marginalization of the Ijaw nation and other riverine ethnic groups.

“It is the height of political insensitivity to humiliate an Ijaw governor out of office because of one man’s sheer greed and dictatorial tendencies,” he said.

Eze further warned that the plan to replace Fubara—Rivers State’s first riverine governor—with another upland politician could lead to severe consequences for the state.

He criticized Martin Amaewhule and the lawmakers aligned with him, urging them to abandon their “fantasies” and focus on their legislative duties.

“Amaewhule and his bandwagon of defectors lack what it takes to order a sitting governor around. They have called Fubara unprintable names and abused him publicly, not knowing that they are denigrating and desecrating the office of the governor of Rivers State,” Eze stated.

Drawing a comparison, Eze questioned whether Wike would have tolerated similar actions during his time as governor.

“If Wike is still the governor of Rivers State, can anybody try what he is doing to Fubara? Can he stomach this political crisis? If not that Fubara is a peace-loving, amiable, wise, humane, respectful, and easy-going man, Wike and the Presidency would have seen what fire does to the ears of a rat,” Eze remarked.

Reports indicate that Governor Fubara had previously extended an invitation to Amaewhule and his group to seek a peaceful resolution, but they rejected the offer.

Reacting to their refusal, Eze accused the lawmakers of arrogance and acting as though Rivers State could not function without them.

“It is ominous and inauspicious behavior—an affront to the highly revered office of the governor of Rivers State—for the lawmakers to shun a peaceful invitation by Governor Fubara for a meeting,” he said.

Describing Fubara’s outreach as a “political masterstroke strategy,” Eze argued that the lawmakers’ rejection of the peace talks exposed their determination to undermine the stability of Rivers State.
