Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, in collaboration with Sector 2 Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), have successfully apprehended a suspected bandit leader and a notorious gunrunner in a series of coordinated operations.
Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Olubodunde Oni, announced the arrests in a statement on Sunday.
According to Mr. Oni, on March 20, 2025, troops ambushed and arrested Alhaji Mansur Mohammad in Donga Local Government Area while he was in possession of ₦1.2 million, allegedly intended for illegal arms procurement.
Investigations revealed the funds were linked to sponsors from Bauchi State.
On the same day, troops also captured Adamu Yakubu, also known as “No Money No Guy,” a high-profile bandit leader reportedly involved in multiple violent crimes, including kidnappings and a deadly attack on March 10 in Tse-Shiikaa village, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
That attack resulted in two deaths, one person sustaining critical injuries, and others suffering gunshot and machete wounds.
In a series of raids across Taraba and Plateau states, troops dismantled criminal hideouts, seizing motorcycles, a passport, and various weapons.
During an operation in Achalle, a border community between Taraba and Plateau states, they forced bandits to flee and destroyed a major hideout consisting of over 70 huts.
Additionally, on March 16, acting on intelligence, troops raided the residence of two wanted gunrunners, Irimiya Aboki and Tanko Adamu, also known as “Arewa Mafia,” in Mararaba Donga.
Though the suspects escaped, the troops recovered four pistols, a pump-action rifle, and six cartridges.
Mr. Oni noted that the troops also secured the Dutsen Zaki high ground, neutralizing further threats. Commending their efforts, Brigade Commander Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the region.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies to ensure lasting peace and security.
