Akinwumi Adesina Sworn In As African Development Bank President For The Second Time

Dr Akinwumi Adesina was Nigeria’s former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. He was re-elected as President of African Development Bank on August 27 to serve a second five-year term, after a unanimous vote of all Governors, regional and non-regional members of the Bank.
The newly re-elected eight president of the African Development Bank Dr Akinwumi Adesina was sworn in as President for the second time, today Tuesday 1st September 2020.
In attendance for the oath taking and swearing in ceremony was Heads of States , Governors, over 200 external stakeholders who joined physically and virtually, and Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The former Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Bank, Mrs. Niale Kaba, Minister of National Planning of Côte d’Ivoire,announced the election which took place on the last day of the 2020 55th Annual Meetings.
Adesina while reacting to his reelection described it as historic becoming the first President of the bank to be re-elected by 100 percent votes of all its shareholders and also being the first Nigerian to occupy that position.
He stated that during his first five year tenure, the AFDB focused on key development priorities known as the High 5s: Light up and Power Africa; Feed Africa; Industrialize Africa; Integrate Africa; and Improve the Quality of Life for the People of Africa.
The bank, Africa’s premier development finance institution, comprising 54 regional and 27 non-regional member countries, was able to impact the lives of 335 million Africans..
AFDB President promised to use these five years to push for more development in all parts of Africa and to impact on more lives. We say congrats to our very Own!!
