The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday, said that as part of safety measures by the commission to ensure the wellbeing of voters ahead of the September 19 Edo Governorship election and the Ondo amid this period of Covid-19 Pandemic, the use of face masks for individuals is mandatory before they can exercise their franchise in the forthcoming elections.
“It is mandatory for every voter to wear a face mask or face covering without which the voter would not be allowed to vote,” the Chairman of the electoral body” The INEC Boss while explaining the kind of face mask voters are expected to wear so as to be accredited to vote said a” face-covering will be sufficient “
Prof Yakubu also said social distancing will also be followed strictly and to ensure this, INEC is introducing two queues in the polling areas and voters must avoid touching surfaces or leaning on the wall.
” One outside the polling area and the other, inside the polling area,” Professor Mahmood said while stressing that “within the inner queue, voters must maintain the mandatory two-meter or six feet distance and we clearly marked this in one of the by-elections we conducted recently.”
He encouraged voters to obey all the rules and regulations so there will be a smooth running of the election in these two states.
