Her Majesty, Queen of England, Elizabeth II, has sent her goodwill message to President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria celebrates its 60th Independence anniversary tomorrow, October 1.
Mr. Femi Adesina, who is the special adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, made this known on Wednesday and said that the Queen’s solidarity and felicitation message was relayed by the British High Commissioner in Nigeria.
According to the queen, Britain will continue to strengthen its bilateral relations with Nigeria.
She reminded Nigerians of the historic closeness between both countries which dates back to the colonial era before independence in 1960
.“The United Kingdom and Nigeria benefit from strong and enduring ties as Commonwealth partners through shared history and most importantly, our people.
“These are bonds that I hope and believe will flourish long into the future,” she said.
Therefore, she wished the country peace and progress in all ramifications.
“It gives me great pleasure to offer my warmest congratulations on the 60th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence, together with my best wishes for your country’s continued happiness and prosperity,” she said.
President Buhari will address the country on Thursday from Eagle Square, Abuja by 10 am as part of the activity lined up to celebrate the 60th Independence anniversary.
