Ghanaians go to the Poll today to elect their President as the two major contenders President Nana Akufo-Addo and his longtime rival John Mahama.
The West African nation has enjoyed stability in transferring power nearly 30 years ago since it returned to democracy.
The two major parties which have their contenders as Akufo-Addo 76, and Mahama, 62 on Friday signed a peace accord with the 12 candidates who are running —which includes three women, to ensure that they will maintain the peace that has been in existence for over seven years now.
Although the two major parties have always accepted electoral outcomes they pursue whatever grievances they may have through the court of law.
Mahama made a bold move by picking a woman who is a former education minister, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate —Mrs. Naana Opoku is said to be the first woman on the ticket of the major party.
Mahama has been criticised for poor economic decisions and racking up unsustainable debts, including corruption allegations during his time in the office
In a televised address on Sunday evening, President Akufo-Addo made this statement :
“In view of the happenings on the continent, and, indeed in West Africa, the entire world is looking up to us to maintain our status as a beacon of democracy, peace, and stability,”
Since taking office, Akufo-Addo has been widely praised for the record of free education and electricity stability, Ghana also witnessed better management of fighting and containing the dreaded Coronavirus under his administration.
Although some have criticized him for abandoning the main reason he was elected four years ago which is graft.
