The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State. CHARLES OKECHUKWU ESIMONE, has finally postponed the earlier announced exam that was scheduled to hold on 31st of May 2021 and head for two weeks vacation.
This was coming after the students had complained that the VC, CHARLES OKECHUKWU ESIMONE has fixed exam for the students on the exact day the IPOB has ordered sit at home all across the Biafra territory to mark the remembrance of Biafran heroes that lost their lives during the civil war in Nigeria.
Students of the institution had called on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to intervene when the VC refused to shift the exam to another day o enable them observe the sit-at-home order and pay respect to the Biafran fallen heroes on the 31st of May.
However, in a press release by the institution, it mandated UNIZIK students to go on vacation as a result of its revised calendar which showed that the second semester will be concluding on Friday, May 28th until June 11 when students are expected to be back on campus.
Part of the Press Release reads;
“In line with the revised academic calendar for the completion of 2019/2020 session for regular students, as approved by the Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Awka, the second semester examination will be concluded on Friday. May 28 2021.
Sequel to this, the students are to proceed on vacation afterwards till June 11, 2021 while the academic activities for the 2020/2021 will commence on Monday, June 14 2021″
The school also incuded the revised school calendar in order to accommodate any changes made.
Reactions from observers boted that IPOB is people’s movement.
Other schools in the Southeast region have adhered to the order by closing.
Biafra Heroes Remembrance Day is a day set aside to honor over 3million biafrans that died during the Nigerian/Biafran civil war.
The remembrance is done every May 30th but, this years own happen to fell on Sunday which is why it was hanged to 31st May. Biafrans all over the world are expected to be part of this year’s heroes day sit-at-home order.
