The phased demolition of the Ekeoha market in Aba, known as the Shopping Centre, has begun as part of the Abia State government’s remodeling project aimed at enhancing safety and attracting more business. The first phase targets the decked shops along Ehi Road.
Governor Alex Otti, who launched the project in August, assured original shop owners that they would retain their spaces post-remodeling, which will be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to minimize business disruption. However, some traders, led by Chris Uruakpa, have raised concerns, filing a lawsuit against the governor for delays in the project. Those affected by the demolition are urging for a swift reconstruction to quickly resume their businesses.
