Dangote Refinery has resumed importing crude oil from the United States, with a shipment of two million barrels of WTI Midland crude from Chevron set to arrive at the refinery next month. This follows a three-month break from foreign crude purchases as the refinery focused on using domestically sourced oil.
The resumption of imports may suggest that the Naira-for-crude deal with the Nigerian government has faced challenges, or that Dangote Refinery is not receiving enough crude from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
The crude is expected to be delivered by the supertanker Azure Nova, with the cargo loading around December 5, 2024. Despite the Naira-for-crude deal being hinted at by the government, there are reports that the refinery continues to buy crude in US dollars from the government.
