Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, has distanced herself from the $52.8 million recently repatriated to Nigeria from the United States, which had been linked to her in the media.
Through her lawyer, Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN, Diezani denied any involvement in the forfeiture of the funds, stating that they were connected to Kola Aluko, a Nigerian oil magnate.
According to her statement, the money came from the sale of a yacht seized from Aluko by the U.S. government and was never linked to her in any way.
She also refuted claims that she had awarded any corrupt contracts related to the case. Her lawyers emphasized that she had not been tried or found guilty of any crime, urging the public to allow the legal process to proceed without further defamation.
